CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on therapy which helps to facilitate the release of restrictions and tensions deep within the body. It is a subtle but powerful therapy that affects the central nervous system to improve the health and function of the entire body while relieving pain and associated dysfunction.

  • The craniosacral system refers to the soft tissues and fluids around the brain and spinal cord which protect the area. A compromise of their function impacts on the central nervous system, endocrine system and in fact on nearly every other system in the body.

By releasing these restrictions with light touch techniques, the body is able to relax and rebalance, allowing the central nervous system, endocrine and immune systems to perform at their best, strengthening and enhancing health and general well-being. The therapy works by targeting the route cause of a problem allowing the body to then heal, relax and unwind as needed.

CST can also release emotional traumas from the body. These can become stored in the tissues, much like a scar and can prevent full healing or recovery from occurring. CST can assist in releasing these traumas therefore allowing recovery to occur.

  • Craniosacral therapy can be used to help with a wide variety of problems that can lead to pain and dysfunction such as injury, surgery and wear and tear. It has a very calming effect of the body so is also beneficial for anxiety, headaches and stress.

Our bodies can also store emotional traumas in the tissues, which can interrupt and prevent full healing or recovery. CST can help to release such traumas from the body using SomatoEmotional Release (SER). These may occur following birth trauma (to both mum and baby), accidents of other emotional life events and can cause interrupted healing or lead to more chronic issues such as poor immunity, lack of energy, long term pain or anxiety to name just a few.

Due to the gentle nature of the treatment, CST is suitable for very young babies right up to very elderly people.

  • A typical session will last 45 minutes to one hour. You will remain fully clothed (it is a good idea to wear comfortable clothing) and lie down on a padded couch. The therapist will evaluate by gently touching various parts of your body in order to locate areas of tension and restrictions. These restrictions are then assisted by delicate manual techniques.

Each session is very individual, most people do feel a deep sense of relaxation during the treatment, also feelings of warmth and/or gentle pulsing in the area the therapist is working.
