Acupuncture and Sleep

According to Chinese Medicine there are many reasons why you might not be able to sleep.

  • It could be due to the quality of the Blood or the Qi, which is often a long time in the making.  Or it might be simply due to a particularly late meal or one drink too many.

  • Insomnia is also a common symptom in women experiencing the menopause.  But what ever the reason, it always boils down to an imbalance of energy.

As an Acupuncturist, asking some simple questions about your general health can help me make a diagnosis.  I might also ask about the nature of your insomnia.

  • What time do you wake up?  Between 1-3am could indicate a Liver imbalance;  3-5am might point to a Lung imbalance.  Do you have crazy dreams?  This could point to a heat disturbance.

  • Waking early in the morning and then can’t get back to sleep?  This might indicate a Gall Bladder disturbance.

Acupuncture is able to re-establish the balance of your energies, so you can once again enjoy a good nights sleep and feel refreshed and energised.
