Counselling

Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk with a trained professional about any difficulties you may be experiencing: these may relate to personal relationships, work related issues or unexpected life events.

Taking the first step to seek counselling may seem quite daunting and we appreciate how difficult this can be. When you make that decision, one of our therapists can work with you so that you can make the changes you need to live a fuller life. They will listen to what is important to you and not judge the choices you have made and they will help you to identify the underlying cause of your concerns.

  • At the heart of Person-Centered Counselling is the working relationship between the client and counsellor, which is most effective when based on openness, mutual respect and trust. I treat all information as confidential working within the guidelines of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

As a Person-Centered counsellor I will try to understand how you are thinking and feeling: how you experience your world. I believe every person has the ability to decide for themselves what is exactly right for them, so rather than tell you what to do I will help you gain a perspective about whatever is troubling you and identify what is stopping you reaching your full potential.

My aim is to provide personal and professional counselling, which I believe will deepen your understanding of yourself and your situation so that you are able to make confident decisions based on the choices available to you.

  • Our first session is an opportunity for us to see how we can work together and how your needs may be met through counselling. Each counselling session will last an hour. The number of sessions you have will be determined by you, depending on your personal issues: you may find a few sessions meet your needs or that longer term therapy is necessary to resolve your difficulties.

The way in which I work is sensitive to the cultural and ethnic origins of individuals and to peoples’ religious beliefs and sexual orientation.

  • Charmaine is a Person-Centred Counsellor. A Person-Centred Counsellor works with the client to help them realise their full potential. In doing this, they support them as they recognise the situations and issues that prevent them from realising their sense of self and maintaining good self-esteem. Unconditional acceptance of a client’s cultural, ethnic and religious background, and their sexuality are sensitively incorporated into the counselling journey.

Charmaine, therefore, listens without judgement and – with gentle questioning – is able to help her client find solutions that best support their health and wellbeing.

Session fee is £50 for individual sessions, £65 for Couples and £75 for families.

Charmaine offers a free initial telephone Consultation should the client wish to seek further information on the therapy process.

  • David is a counsellor specialising in stress and burnout. Having experienced burnout himself he brings the knowledge and wisdom gained through his own experiences to help others. Taking the Western methodologies of psychotherapy and combining them with more holistic Eastern practices, coupled with the experiences from David’s own journey, he strives to support those struggling with stress and empower them with the tools to bring some calm into their lives.
