Theresa Honeyands, RGN, BSc Community Specialist Practice (School Nursing), Why Try Facilitator, Laughter Yoga Leader.
I have always loved interacting with people and am gregarious by nature. I especially enjoy children and young people and find their take on the world and the world’s view of them endlessly fascinating.
Background
I originally trained as a general nurse and worked in a variety of settings until, sixteen years ago, I became a School Nurse. I now lead a School Health Team and work with children aged four to nineteen years across twelve schools, including a school for children with moderate learning disabilities . School Nursing is a varied and interesting job helping children, young people and their families to have healthier and happier lives; the whole person, both body and mind, as one impacts on the other. The aspect I enjoy most is helping solve behavioural and emotional difficulties.
Training
I am employed by the NHS and am able to access regular training on all sorts of topics, but the most exciting is Why Try? I trained in 2008 with Christian Moore and Hans Magleby, co-founders, and have since used it in schools in the classroom, in small groups and one to one. It is wonderful to have a system that really offers a way forward to opportunities, freedom and self-respect, by giving young people their own tools to use and letting them take charge of changing their own lives.
Recently I became a Laughter Yoga Leader and the way I view the world has changed! My own health has improved and I am currently sharing my delight and laughter with those around me, adults and children alike, as well as offering sessions at the Therapy Life Centre.
