What does Physiotherapy involve?

physiotherapistThe initial assessment will involve your Physio asking lots of questions to fully understand the problem. These questions will cover your own general health and look at other areas of the body that could be affecting your problem, as well as your past history of other traumas and illnesses.

Your Physio will then be looking at movement restrictions and the laying on of hands to feel what is actually happening in the body. Once there is a clearer understanding by the therapist as to what is causing the symptoms, treatment can begin.

Physiotherapy Treatment is a combination of hands on therapy, explanation of how and why the symptoms are there and what you can do to help yourself with exercises, posture correction, life style changes and more awareness of why the body reacts in that way.

Our goal is to greatly improve your symptoms as soon as possible, to help you understand and therefore be able to prevent further episodes or greatly reduce the frequency or intensity of your problem.

Follow up treatment will involve a quick reassessment of how you have responded to the initial treatment, followed by more physiotherapy as required. This ensures that the treatment is on track and, if not, allows the physiotherapist to quickly decide on what further action is needed.

In our experience,  early assessment, diagnosis and treatment will help to speed the recovery from many musculo-skeletal injuries.

However, long-standing problems also respond well to an accurate diagnosis, an holistic treatment plan and advice on how to prevent reoccurrence of the symptoms.

The ethos of the Therapy Life Centre is to treat the whole individual.  We acknowledge that dis-ease of our physical, emotional and mental health impacts in all sorts of ways, and recognise that in order to restore good health all of these areas need to be well balanced.
